JOYCE McCOMBE
HONOURARY MEMBER
Joyce McCombe and her husband Larry were VERY involved in everything Highland! They prided themselves in knowing they contributed a total of 2 highland dancers and 6 bagpipers to the Winnipeg Scottish community!
Joyce’s involvement with MHDA started in the mid-1960’s. She volunteered in many ways at a variety of competitions and events, often being the Master of Ceremony.
As many of us know, having children that compete, often involves travel. The McCombes took many trips across Canada and into the States so their children could participate, and often looked after other people’s children too.
With her own children needing costumes, uniforms and instruments, Joyce researched how to order these items from in Scotland. Eventually all the other parents were requesting that she order for their children as well, and in short order “Glengarry Scottish Imports” was born. There are still clothing items in use today that were custom made by Glengarry Scottish Imports.
Joyce was a terrific ambassador of Highland dancing and bagpiping. Her loss is felt, but her legacy lives on.
